Stairlift FAQ
How does a stairlift work?
At Do Home Healthcare, our stairlifts operate along a rail that attaches
directly to the treads of your staircase—no wall support needed in most cases.
They’re powered by batteries and kept charged with a simple plug-in cord
connected to a standard outlet, ensuring consistent operation.
Can I rent a stairlift if I only need it temporarily?
Absolutely. Do Home Healthcare offers rental options for straight stairlifts at
many of our locations. Renting is an affordable solution if you're recovering
from an injury or expecting a guest who needs stair assistance. Please note:
curved stairlifts are not available for rent due to their custom-built rails,
but in some cases, we can provide two straight units for staircases with
landings or split levels.
What happens if there’s a power outage?
No worries—our stairlifts are battery-operated. As long as the unit is fully
charged, it will continue to function through multiple trips even during a
power outage. The built-in charging cord keeps the batteries ready at all
times.
What is the weight capacity of a stairlift?
Most stairlifts we provide support between 275 and 350 lbs. For those needing
more capacity, we offer heavy-duty models that can accommodate up to 600 lbs
and feature larger, more comfortable seats.
Will others still be able to use the stairs?
Yes! When the stairlift is not in use, the seat, armrests, and footrest easily
fold up to allow normal access to the stairs. A remote control also allows you
to send the lift to the top or bottom as needed, keeping your stairway clear.
What if my staircase has curves or landings?
No problem. Do Home Healthcare can accommodate nearly all staircase types.
While straight rail lifts are the most economical and common, we also provide
custom curved stairlifts designed for stairs with turns, landings, or even
spiral staircases.
Can stairlifts be installed outdoors?
Yes, we offer outdoor stairlifts made with weather-resistant materials to
handle the elements. If your porch, deck, or outdoor stairs are difficult to
access, an outdoor stairlift can provide safe, comfortable mobility year-round.
